A History of Giving

At JDM Steel, we support select charitable organizations helping those undergoing serious medical crises. Each quarter we set aside a portion of our profits to donate to the organizations listed below. We encourage you to support these groups in any way you can.

 

 

Our History

  • 1969

    Northern Industries, Inc. established as a bar/structural secondary steel broker.
  • 1973

    Northern leases 50,000 sq.ft. warehouse
    in Crestwood, Illinois.

  • 1978 to 1984

    Bar sawing added. Four expansions grow the facility to 165,000 sq.ft.

  • 1985

    First CTL line, 0.375″ x 72″, plus first Slitter are installed.

  • 1986

    Northern becomes an ‘All Prime’ steel supplier.
  • 1993

    0.500″x 96″ CTL line with two hydraulic levelers installed.

  • 1995

    Two corrective levelers added to the original 0.375″ x 72″ CTL line.
  • 1996

    A 4 High Temper Mill is added to the 0.500″x 96″ CTL line.

  • 2005

    Relocates to Chicago Heights.
    Upgrades 0.375″ x 72″ CTL line.

  • Rich Merlo buys shares, becomes sole owner. Renames firm JDM Steel.
  • JDM Steel opens Houston, Texas sales office.

  • 2008

    Installs first SCS Coil-to-Coil line in USA, for hot roll to 0.250″ x 72″.

  • 2011

    “Brushed P&O” is created to improve surface and shape of HRPO coils.
  • Begins stocking in Columbus, MS to serve Southeast US customers.

  • 2013

    Opened sales office in Fort Wayne, Indiana

  • 2012

    RBI Stretcher Leveler is installed in 0.375″ x 72″ CTL for “ultra flatness.”

  • 2019

    Celebrating 50 years of Service.
